Follow these steps to get your expedition kit sorted.
1
checklistKit List — Sort Every Item
Go through every item and tap one of the four buttons to say what applies to you:
check_circleHave — you already own it
handshakeBorrow — borrow it from the school kit store
shopping_cartBuy — you need to purchase it
blockDon't Need — not relevant to you (the row will be greyed out)
When you mark an item as Have, a condition row appears beneath it — tap Good, Check, or Replace to record whether the item is in good shape or needs attention before the expedition.
The progress bar at the top fills as you categorise items — aim to sort everything before your expedition date.
2
groupsKit List — Group Items
Some items (whistle, first aid kit, map, etc.) are shared group kit — only one or two are needed per group. For these, a Carrying: row appears so you can assign which group member is responsible for each piece. Go to the Trip tab to set your team size (up to 7) and name each member — their names will then appear on the assignment buttons. Group items can be assigned to one person, or split across two if needed.
3
restaurantKit List — Food
Scroll to the bottom of the Kit List to find the Food Ideas section. Pick meals from the suggested list (drawn from official DofE guidance) or add your own. Aim for roughly 1 kg of food per day, packed in separate labelled bags per meal.
Items that need to stay cold (wraps, cheese, etc.) have a ac_unitFridge button — tap it to flag them as perishable. These will appear as a separate "Pack from fridge last minute" section on your packing list and printed kit list, so you don't forget to grab them on the morning of departure.
4
backpackPacking — Pack Your Bag
Items you've marked Have appear here to tick off as you physically find and pack them. If you live between two homes, switch to 2 homes mode to tag where each item is.
Items marked Borrow or Buy appear in a Still to Get section with a Received? button. Tap it when an item arrives — it will move up into your packing list automatically.
5
bar_chartSummary — Check Your Progress
See a count of items in each category plus full lists of what still needs sorting. Come back here to make sure nothing has been missed before you pack.
6
mailEmail — Request Borrowed Items
Once you've marked items as Borrow, this tab drafts a borrow-request email to your teacher. Enter your name and teacher's name, then tap Copy Email or Open in Mail App to send it. The buttons are greyed out until at least one item is marked to borrow.
7
exploreTrip — Dates & Team
Set your practice and main expedition dates — a countdown appears at the top of the app. Also set your team size and enter each member's name here; these names appear on the group kit assignment buttons in the Kit List.
8
menu_bookGuide — The Official DofE PDF
Read the official DofE Guide to the Expedition Section directly in the app — useful for checking kit specifications or expedition rules.
